Side-dish of Tiny GREEN PEAS w/ BACON, LETTUCE, & TOMATO

4 slices bacon, fried crisp
3 T. butter or margarine
1 (16 to 18-oz.) pkg. frozen, tiny green peas
2 cups coarsely shredded lettuce
1 large tomato; sliced, then quartered
1 large onion, sliced in thin rings
1 tsp. granulated sugar
1 ¼ tsp. salt
½ tsp. garlic salt
¼ tsp. garlic powder
¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper
1 ½ tsp. lemon juice
3 drops Tabasco sauce

In a large skillet, fry the bacon until crisp; then place on paper towel to drain & set aside.
Pour off almost all of the bacon drippings & add the butter or margarine to the skillet to melt.  Stir-fry the still frozen green peas, lettuce, tomato, and onion until lettuce is wilted.  Add the sugar, salt, garlic salt & powder, and pepper; mix well. Then, add the lemon juice & pepper & stir to blend. Crumble the bacon over the top of the green peas and serve hot.  Serves 4 to 6.

"Small Points On Table Etiquette"

"When you are helped to anything, do not wait until the rest of the company are provided.  As it is not considered good breeding.  Soup is always served for the first coarse, and it should be eaten with dessert spoons, and taken from the sides, not the tips, of them, without any sound of the lips, and not sucked into the mouth audibly from the ends of the spoon.  Bread should not be broken into soup or gravy.  Never ask to be helped to soup a second time.  The hostess may ask you to take a second plate, but you will politely decline.  Fish chowder, which is served in soup plates, is said to be an exception which proves this rule, and when eating of that it is correct to take a second plateful if desired." 

Interesting!  I am supposing that Fish Chowder may have been considered a full meal; therefore a second helping was correct.  But, heaven-forbid, asking for a second helping of tomato soup!  It was considered only a first course and a definite NO NO for seconds.  I am making fun, but we all probably could use a refresher course in table manners.  You can tell my age with that statement!  I might be laughed out of a McDonald’s.
